Do you believe in magic? When I pulled my first rabbit from a hat, I sure did. My dad tried to teach me the trick, but I just closed my eyes and shouted hocus pocus! Luckily, after a mercifully short conjuring career, a new kind of magic revealed itself.

I got my first design brief at age nine. My dad home-brewed some cabernet and commissioned a label for his latest batch. The result was a tacky disaster — not unlike the wine itself — but I found an endless source of fascination in design and typography.

Decades later, I’ve created packaging for more palatable beverages, worked on national political campaigns, and performed some prestidigitation with my band PHOX. To this day, I still believe in magic.
